You may wonder who chooses Sedona as their wedding destination. The variety of people and reasons they come to Sedona vary widely. Many brides from Phoenix, Scottsdale and the surrounding area choose Sedona because of its close proximity and to escape the hotter temperatures in the Valley of the Sun during the late Spring. Others from more distant locations choose Sedona because of its beauty, serenity and romantic character.

Sedona's Wedding Professionals Association (SWPA) is a professional organization dedicated to making your wedding perfect. The SWPA members include wedding planners, photographers, reception venues, florists and other services such as Fango. Because Sedona is a popular wedding destination, planning your wedding in well in advance of your wedding day can be important. If you're planning to use a wedding planner, contact them as soon as you've narrowed down your date to a specific month. Your wedding planner will have a very good idea which dates during a given year are most popular.

Determine where you want to hold your ceremony; will it be held inside or outdoors? Do you want traditional services at one of the many local churches or chapels? These groups sometimes select to have facials, pedicures and spa treatments the day before the wedding, and have hair, make-up and nails performed the day the of the ceremony. We also have a number of brides book a romantic Fango Tango couples massage, the day before or day after the wedding!

Sedona is blessed with abundant sunshine! Although the temperature in the Spring can be delightful, fair skinned brides should take special precautions to avoid burning. If you're traveling to Sedona from a cool weather State, avoid skin treatments that can make you more sensitive to the more intense Southwestern sun. Also, avoid soaking up too many rays a day or two before the ceremony. Proper make-up for your ceremony is essential. A professional esthetician can help choose the right application for your day. Applications for outdoor ceremonies in the brilliant sunshine can differ significantly from applications for indoor services.

Sedona Valentine's Day

February in Sedona brings the start of baseball for Rock High School. It also brings the bloom of the early Spring flowering trees. Although some of the flowering Spring bulbs arrive in late January, most of the daffodils bloom this month.

Our averge daytime temperatures are in the low 60's mid February and because of the abundant amounts of sunshine, visitors to Sedona enjoy many outdoor activities including golf, hiking and horseback riding. There's also a large variety of shopping in the many shops and galleries.

Visitors are often surprised when they pack for "Florida" weather for a trip to Sedona for Valentine's Day. Locals say that "Sedona enjoys a Green Christmas and a White Easter". It's not unusual to enjoy a short sleeve day in February or a mild snow. We don't know anyone who owns a snow shovel since most of the snow that falls by noon has melted by the end of the day.

Sedona is in the "high desert" with an elevation of 4500ft above sea level. This means that on clear nights, we get significant cooling. Night time temperatures are normally in the low 40's in mid February. However, many restaurants with heated garden patios will serve guests outdoors in the evenings, and can be very comfortable.

Flagstaff, a short drive from Sedona, is home to one of Arizona's two popular ski areas. The Arizona Snowbowl ski resort is popular with residents from Northern Arizona, as well as many of the residents in the Phoenix area. Many visitors are surprised to find out that the ski area is located on slopes of a dormant volcano that's over 12,500 ft in elevation. Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon to the west of Flagstaff get true 4-season weather. Although the last few winters have been dry, Flagstaff historically receives more snow annually than Buffalo New York, making it one of the top ten snowiest cities in the US!

February in Sedona is also the start of the Spring bridal season. Between February and June, hundreds of couples come to Sedona for their weddings. Valentine's Day weddings are very popular in Sedona. Because of our reputation as being the Sedona's Wedding Day Spa, Fango is a popular choice for a bride's wedding day preparations for hair, make-up, facials and even a massage for those nervous brides. Many of our brides and their attendants make a day of it with some coming in the day before for spa services to celebrate the time together.

But most of all, we find that February is a rommance month in Sedona. In addition to the many weddings, it's a popular time for couples to getaway for a romanitc time alone. Why Visitors Come to Sedona:

Sedona is a destination for visitors from all over the world. The panoramic red rock vistas, resorts, shopping and outdoor activities attract millions of visitors to Sedona each year.

The rugged and picturesque landscape includes towering mountains, hidden canyons, streams and a temperate climate. At over 4500 feet in elevation, Sedona escapes the more extreme heat found in Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tucson; in fact, many residents of the greater Phoenix area escape to Sedona for the milder summertime conditions.

Sedona receives it's share of 90 degree days, but even on warm days, the dry air conditions and the afternoon breezes make for pleasant daytime conditions. At night, the high dessert conditions can be counted on to cool off rapidly after sundown to produce comfortable nighttime temperatures in the 60's.

During the winter months, Sedona escapes the snow and cold that frequents the higher elevations of Flagstaff and points North. It's not uncommon to have overnight temperatures dip into the 30's followed by daytime temperatures near 60. With Sedona's abundant sunshine, the winter months can be not only pleasant but also a more relaxed time to visit and explore the area. And if you are lucky enough to be in Sedona on those rare occasions when it snows you'll be treated to some of the prettiest snow capped views... and no shoveling... most of the snow that does make it to the ground melts away the next day.

Sedona is one of the most popular destinations in the US for weddings. There are two periods during the year when wedding parties flock to Sedona.

Beginning in late February and extending into May, hundreds of brides and grooms exchange their vows in one of the many churches, chapels or outdoor ceremonies among the splendor of Sedona's red rock vistas. After the heat of the summer tapers off, bridal activities peak again with additional weddings from September through early November.

If you are visiting Sedona to enjoy the scenery, taking in a round of golf or visiting one of the many art galleries, Sedona has much to offer to the tourist. Because Sedona is located amongst Federal lands that make up a National Forest (yes, we do have trees in the high dessert!), it's a very popular destination for hiking, camping, horseback riding and bicycling.

There are also many state parks in Sedona that are very popular in the summer months. Slide Rock State Park in Oak Creek Canyon is renowned for it's natural water slide cut into the surrounding rock by nature over millions of years. And the spectacle each evening as the sunsets and makes the mountain colors more vibrant, is an event not to be missed.

Sedona makes a great starting point for other types of sightseeing. If you're an early riser, consider taking a hot air balloon ride and experience the red rock canyons from a different point of view. Or, try a day excursion to the Grand Canyon, ancient ruins or the historic old silver mine in Jerome.

And don't think that the Sedona area is the home to just human residents. Sedona and the surrounding mountains are home to a vast array of wildlife. It's not uncommon to see varieties of hummingbirds, birds of prey or a scampering road-runner.
The wilderness areas surrounding Sedona are home to lizards, coyotes, two types of deer, elk, javalena (wild pigs), bobcats and on occasion the rare sighting of a mountain lion. There are plenty of shy and seldom seen insects like the scorpion and tarantula that call Northern Arizona their home.

Like many of residents, we came to Sedona as a visitor and ended up savoring all that the area has to offer including a more easy-going lifestyle. So, if you come to Sedona to visit, consider staying... there's always room for a few more!
